My brother Wes & sister Laurie have been great about inviting their Carver nieces & nephews (as they get old enough) on backpacking adventures. Jamie is 14 yrs old now and it's his turn. A 3-day hike up and over the Franconia Ridge in New Hampshires White Mountains, with 2 nights staying at Greenleaf AMC Hut where Jamies cousin (Wes' son and former Appalachian Trail thru-hiker) Nathaniel is working as part of the Hut Croo. I've climbed Mt Liberty and Mt Garfield (opposite ends of the ridge) but never the Ridge (Sue has, with Wes one summer long ago) so I'm feeling small pangs of jealousy/wistfullness.
Oh how I remember the "Good Old Days" when Laurie & I shared many backpacking trips.
"Now I think I'm going down to the well tonight and I'm going to drink till I get my fill. And I hope when I get old I don't sit around thinking about it, but I probably will. Yeah, just sitting back trying to recapture a little of the glory of, well time slips away and leaves you with nothing mister but boring stories of glory days" (Glory Days by Bruce Springsteen)

Wes and Laurie are taking a million play kids on their trip. Still jealous?
Keep thinking about next fall and hiking around a volcano in St. Lucia.
